When Comic Book Movies Suck : Blagophilia

I found a great article via Twitter for how to make a comic book movie so it does not suck. The author has 4 points. I completely agree.

1. Do not have too many villains.
2. Stay true to the heart of the story.
3. Do not change things “for the kids.”
4. Trust the story.

Movies that follow these rules work. These are why Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, X-Men, X-Men II, Superman, Superman II, Batman Begins, Dark Knight, Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Spider-man, Spider-man 2, nearly all the DC and Marvel animated films and series since 1992, and several movies made since 1998 worked. These rules are also why Batman and Robin, Spider-man 3, Superman III, Superman IV, and the movies made between Superman 2 and X-Men failed. I can only think of one movie that adapted a comic book that worked although these rules were broken - the Blade Trilogy.
