Chris Sims Reviews: 'Batman: Under the Red Hood' - ComicsAlliance | Comics culture, news, humor, commentary, and reviews

I watched Batman: Under the Red Hood last Sunday and I loved it. I like this review by Chris Sims from Comics Alliance but I think he's a little harsh in his criticism. I think the exposition given in the story may seem a lot but I disagree. I think it helps those who don't know the characters. For example I never saw Amazo looking like he did in this movie. He looked different in the Justice League animated series. I didn't recognize him. I also think that this was the best DC animated movie ever. Every one of them has been better than the one that came before.

Blog@Newsarama » Blog Archive » Johns and Fraction Want a GREEN LANTERN/IRON MAN Crossover

I just heard that Geoff Johns and Matt Fraction carried on conversation in Twitter  about what a crossover with Iron Man and Green Lantern might look like. I like their ideas. Although these writers are highly respected in the industry I don't think Marvel and DC will do it. I hope I'm wrong.

'Justice League: Crisis On Two Earths' DVD Is Off the Chain - ComicsAlliance | Comics culture, news, humor, commentary, and reviews

I finally watched the movie that was just released Justice League: Crisis On Two Earths and I was blown away. Then I read this review from Comics Alliance. I agree with the review. It truly is awesome. If you have not seen the movie you should. It was extremely well done. The only problem I had about it was the moral ambiguity at the end. The review is right. In my opinion, Batman was a little out of character. The story and the fight scenes were completely awesome. I think Batman should have done better physically but it was still good. I liked the movie a great deal. I'll save the philosophy discussion for another post but I really thought that this was more than just action, but thought provoking at a deeper depth than most animated projects. I don't want to give too much away and if you hate spoilers you wanna read the link below after you see the movie

Something else I can gush about are the Special Features. They include a great documentary on the huge, multiverse stories of the DC Comics stories, four episodes from the Justice League series, the pilots for that Aquaman and Wonder Woman Live-action series, and short story starring the Spectre. I hope they make more of those. There is also a short documentary on the next DC Animated film: Batman - Under the Red Hood. There is even more there. You are going to be spending sometime with this one. I recommend the Blu-Ray.

Collora Studios - "Batman: Dead End"

The cover of the Batman/Predator crossover.Image via Wikipedia
Sometimes fans make their own films. In this day and age, all you need is a good idea and just about anything is possible. Sometimes fan-made projects look exactly like something shot in a backyard and other projects are truly epic. Here is one that is too epic for words.  You have got to see this. Batman versus Predator verses Alien! It's so good, DC Entertainment should let these guys do their own movie. There were several comic book stories that crossed Batman over with Predator and Alien in the 1990's with DC Comics and Darkhorse Comics.

Here is the movie:

Green Lantern To Kick Off Justice League Movies?

greenlanternImage by Paul Jacobson via Flickr
It's been reported that Green Lantern is just the beginning for DC's live-action films,  culminating in a Justice League movie.

Here is  a quote:

According to New Orleans newspaper, The Times-Pacayune:
"Green Lantern" is expected to be the first in a trilogy of films focusing on D.C.'s Justice League heroes  --  the others being "The Flash" and "Wonder Woman"  --  before uniting all three with fellow League members BatmanSuperman and Aquaman for a Justice League movie."

Hopefully they can at least puill this out as good as Marvel is doing.

Batman The Brave and The Bold: Mayhem of The Music Meister!

Batman: The Brave and the BoldImage via Wikipedia
In the latest episode of Brave and the Bold, the creators of the show tried a bold move and actually managed to pull it off: a musical! I was entertained and as a rule, I hate musicals, with few exceptions! Watch it quick before it gets pulled off of YouTube!

DC Entertainment Is Bigger Then Disney-Marvel

I found a great article comparing the impact that the formation of DC Entertainment will make on popular culture verses Disney acquiring Marvel Comics. I agree with the author of the post. DC Entertainment will have the larger impact because DC Comics has arguably lost its autonomy now that Time-Warner and Warner Bros has tightened the reins. On the other hand Disney seems to try to help companies do what they already do and distribute it better than try to interfere with their creative process. Therefore I don't think that a lot is not going to change for Marvel except making it better. However over at DC, Paul Levitz stepping down as publisher amid rumors that he disagrees with direction that Time-Warner wants to go doesn't feel me with a lot of good feelings about DC Entertainment. Some argue that DC is mishandling there best resources. I love the following quote from the article

As a new motion picture division, it "replaces" Warner Independent, which closed last year, emphasizing the company's increasingly genre-centric programming (Warners also owns New Line Studios, as well as Warner Bros Animation, Warner Bros Family Entertainment, Warner Bros Pictures and Castle Rock) and cementing moves to make DC properties a centerpiece of their movie slate that have been ongoing for more than a year now, including bringing comic writers Geoff Johns, Grant Morrison and Marv Wolfman in as consultants this summer. As moviegoing audiences continue to vote for genre franchises with their dollars, Warners seem to be responding by finally playing with the toys that they've owned - but forgotten about - all along.

When Disney bought Marvel, we couldn't help but be reminded of Marvel editor-in-chief Joe Quesada's infamous off-the-record-but-quoted-anyway comment about DC from 2002, "What the fuck is DC anyway? ...I mean, they have Batman and Superman, and they don't know what to do with them. That's like being a porn star with the biggest dick and you can't get it up. What the fuck?"

Who knows, maybe seven years later, Warners looked at what they owned, and agreed. Maybe DC Entertainment is corporate Viagra. We'll have to wait until 2010 - DC Comics' 75th anniversary - to find out.

An interesting analogy that seems to fit what I see. We just have to see what happens next.
