Edward Norton Responds to Hulk Re-Casting - ReelComix.com

I posted earlier of the shabby treatment Edward Norton has received. from Marvel Studios.  Edward Norton has issued a public statement.  While some people would be snarky. mean, or come off like a jerk - proving that Marvel made the right decision, Norton is a real class act.

Edward Norton Replaced as HULK in Avengers - ReelComix.com

I just read a piece of surprising news that amazed me:

Kevin Feige has told HitFix that the rumors of Edward Norton being replaced in the upcoming Avengers movie are true. It has been doing the rounds on the web for a few days now that Norton would not play HULK in Avengers despite his eagerness to do so. Kevin Feige tells hitfix;
We have made the decision to not bring Ed Norton back to portray the title role of Bruce Banner in the Avengers. Our decision is definitely not one based on monetary factors, but instead rooted in the need for an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members.
The Avengers demands players who thrive working as part of an ensemble, as evidenced by Robert, Chris H, Chris E, Sam, Scarlett, and all of our talented casts. We are looking to announce a name actor who fulfills these requirements, and is passionate about the iconic role in the coming weeks."
So basically they want a cheaper actor who is hungry for the work and will do as he is told?

Let me just say that I think Feige and Marvel is making a major mistake. Feige said they wanted "an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members." There doesn't seem to be an explanation for how Edward Norton is not that kind of actor. I agree with the assessment they want an actor who will work for less money and do as he is told. I'm saddened that is how Marvel is doing business. Add Edward Norton to Terrence Howard on the list of screwed over people by greed.

I love creator interviews. I like seeing how writers, artists, producers, and directors go about their craft. Jon Favreau never disappoints in an interview. You can tell he is very passionate and knowledgeable. Funny thing is that I thought that he was just an actor but he is far more than that. He has many talents. Here is more on him.

'Justice League: Crisis On Two Earths' Actress Gina Torres Celebrates Superheroine Curves [Girl Week]

I love to see Gina Torres. She is one excellent actress. And she's been in a variety of parts since the early 1990's. The interview in question here is about here views of women in the Superhero genre. She just most recently starred as the voice of "Superwoman" in the latest Justice League animated movie. I think the post author's forgot about some of Torres' other work in the genre. She was in both the Hercules, Xena, Angel television series. She was in Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions. She was female lead in the original Mantis television movie. She was in the Cleopatra 2025 Television Series. She's been busy!!!! This is a great interview.

Taylor Lautner To Play Spiderman in Spiderman 4 - ReelComix.com

Reel Comix has posted a great article on the cancellation of Spider-man 4. There is a lot more information. I think the author is right such a reboot with Spider-man as a teenager means trying to catch the overflow from the Twilight and Harry Potter franchises. I disagree that Taylor Lautner should be Peter Parker/Spider-man. I think a better young actor would be Michael Cera (right top) or Jay Barchel (right bottom). Here is a Quote:

“A decade ago we set out on this journey with Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire and together we made three Spider-Man films that set a new bar for the genre. When we began, no one ever imagined that we would make history at the box-office and now we have a rare opportunity to make history once again with this franchise. Peter Parker as an ordinary young adult grappling with extraordinary powers has always been the foundation that has made this character so timeless and compelling for generations of fans. We’re very excited about the creative possibilities that come from returning to Peter's roots and we look forward to working once again with Marvel Studios, Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin on this new beginning,” said Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment.

“Working on the Spider-Man movies was the experience of a lifetime for me. While we were looking forward to doing a fourth one together, the studio and Marvel have a unique opportunity to take the franchise in a new direction, and I know they will do a terrific job,” said Sam Raimi.

“We have had a once-in-a-lifetime collaboration and friendship with Sam and Tobey and they have given us their best for the better part of the last decade.This is a bittersweet moment for us because while it is hard to imagine Spider-Man in anyone else’s hands, I know that this was a day that was inevitable,” said Matt Tolmach, president of Columbia Pictures, who has served as the studio’s chief production executive since the beginning of the franchise. “Now everything begins anew, and that’s got us all tremendously excited about what comes next. Under the continuing supervision of Avi and Laura, we have a clear vision for the future of Spider-Man and can’t wait to share this exciting new direction with audiences in 2012.”

"Spider-Man will always be an important franchise for Sony Pictures and a fresh start like this is a responsibility that we all take very seriously," said Michael Lynton, Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures. "We have always believed that story comes first and story guides the direction of these films and as we move onto the next chapter, we will stay true to that principle and will do so with the highest respect for the source material and the fans and moviegoers who deserve nothing but the best when it comes to bringing these stories and characters to life on the big screen."
