I've kept hearing about the special coming out as a tribute to Dwayne McDuffie. It's interesting that it was put together in about 4 months. It's also good to read a great preview of this project. It drops tomorrow.

Wondercon 2011 - Green Lantern Panel

WonderConImage via WikipediaI was at Wondercon Friday April 1st  2011. One of the reasons I went was because I wanted to see the Green Lantern movie panel. I went to stand in line before it was supposed to stop but not early enough. The line went outside the building and around the corner. I didn't get in!!!! I didn't see any of it. Thankfully some folks were kind enough to out parts of it on YouTube!

Fortunately, I did go to the premiere of the animated movie Green Lantern: Emerald Knights. I enjoyed the movie and will definitely get the BluRay June 7th! Bruce Timm revealed in the panel that DC has the last movie Dwayne McDuffie wrote based on the Justice League early next year and Batman Year One later this year.

Static Gets Ongoing Series by Felicia Henderson, Scott McDaniel - ComicsAlliance | Comics culture, news, humor, commentary, and reviews

I just heard that Static is part of the Teen Titans but he will soon be getting his own solo book. My response: It's about frackin' Time!!!! Them writer will be Felicia Henderson, I haven't heard of her really, but considering that she has been a writer/producer on many of my favorite television shows and movies! I think she will do a great job on the book. She'll be leaving Teen Titans to write Static. I also think she understands Static as a character. She's quoted as saying:

I always had my fingers crossed about Static getting his own book, again. In fact, I stalked Dan DiDio about the idea. I'm also a big Dwayne McDuffie fan, and if I could choose my real life little brother, he'd be Static! I love his relationship with his family, particularly with his sister. It feels very grounded and real to me. I love how much he cares about Dakota and that he's a typical guy in a lot of ways. And nothing's more fun to write than raging hormones, a dedication to doing the right thing for the right reasons, all while still trying to figure out who you are and what you really want.

Even better she is a black woman with great experience in the sci-fi, fantasy, and action/adventure genres. I'll be watching out of this.

Black SuperHero Blog: At The 'Justice League: Crisis On Two Earths' LA Premiere

The Black SuperHero Blog has posted a great article of attending the premier of the animate film Justice League: Crisis On Two Earths! The movie goes on sell today! I like the article a lot. I'm planning to do a review of the movie once I see it, but the blogger really liked it. I would have liked to hear more about the Q&A the blogger spoke about. I want to see more. I hope he will also reveal more of his conversation with Dwayne McDuffie. Use the following link so you can see the article and photographs from the Q&A.

Black Comic Book Creator - Dwayne McDuffie

There are three black comic creators I'd like to call attention to. The first one I will discuss is Dwayne McDuffie. I have been following his work for about half my life now. I had seen his name in the credits of some projects and titles that I have thoroughly enjoyed without ever realizing that he is black. He has not only written some of the best comics I have ever read but he has written or helped create many of the animated shows I have been enjoying since the early 1990's. He is highly talented. This post contains pictures of several characters he has worked on. Click on either on them and some will take you a web page about the character for more information.

When you look at the breadth of his work you realize that he has written some of the most iconic and well-known characters in the history of the medium: Spider-man, Superman, Batman, and Iron man to just name a few. He has done more than some writers ever has the opportunity to do namely write and publish his own characters. Most of the characters he created were part of the company called Milestone that he co-created. DC published the Milestone books as partners.
One of the books he did that I remember from the early 90's that I fondly remember was "Damage Control". The concept was that Damage Control was a company that was contracted to local governments that clean up and re-build after a superhero/supervillian battle. I mean who cleans up Manhatten after the Hulk laid waste to 10-20 blocks? It's a job for Damage Control. I liked this book because it did not take itself or the industry too seriously without becoming campy. I hate campy.

Something else that make McDuffie stands out is that he has branched out to animated television from comic books. He wrote lots of great episodes of Justice League, Teen Titans, Static Shock, and Ben 10. He even wrote the story for the video game called "Justice League Heroes". I like the game. A lot of games have lame plots, but this one is interesting and fun to play through.
