Black SuperHero Blog: Black Superheroes On The Web

The Black Superhero Blog has posted 3 important links that I think everyone should read. If you care about comics and/or African-American history/culture and/or how women are depicted in media, these will interest you. I'm going to write my own posts for each of the three but I wanted to draw attention to the over all blog. It is awesome. This Blog consistently has great content! Follow the link below to see the original links to the articles and don't forget to check out other great content on it!

Black SuperHero Blog: Astrea

I don't remember Astrea! I'm so bummed. A  black female superhero on network TV and I can't remember?!  Okay, I have to cut myself a little slack because I was 3 yrs old at the time. However according to the link to this post she was part of a show that aired with Tarzan and the Super 7 which I do remember watching on CBS. I'm glad this was posted with a video. Of course I'm also glad they are going to release this stuff on DVD. It  may jog a memory.

Black SuperHero Blog: The Black Hulk?

I found this great article on the Black Superhero Blog. It reminded me of this particular issue cover. It's been a while since I've seen it. What If was a series where Marvel explored alternate stories and how they played out. So while this story is not in continuity, it was still interesting. The post also has the following video - hilarious!

Black Superhero Blog: The Talented Tenth Returns

I just read an interesting article on the Black Superhero Blog. A novel is being produced based on black adventurers of the 19th Century. Information can be found at Heroes Like Me. Here is the blurb for the novel:

JOIN the Fiery Furnace, Starlight, The Buffalo Soldier, Black Dove, The Human Pearl, The Maestro and the legendary John Henry-The Steel Driven Man as they uncover a global and evil plot which began during the 1800s and stretches to the PRESENT and the FUTURE. Are they good enough to be Heroes? Can they become The Talented Tenth that will save the world before the Salesman of DOOM's evil plans become reality?

I'm excited about the concept. It reminds me of Alan Moore's League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. The idea of a superteam of black characters sound like more than I can ignore. Anything with John Henry in it, I'm there. I love the name of the team "Talented Tenth" which harkens back to W.E.B. Dubois who envisioned a class of black people who can help the other less fortunate folks with their abilities and education.
