Great news! Nazis will be a part of the Captain America movie. I was really concerned the fight against the Nazis defined World War II and the creation of the character! Turns out that Hydra will be part of the Third Reich! This is a good thing and makes me think the movie will be even better than I originally thought.

However! In support of his Captain America: First Vengeance, a free-to-read digital comics prelude to the events of The First Avenger, Fred Van Lente gave an interview to Newsarama in which the film's apparent downplaying of Nazis was directly addressed.

It is not some kind of rewriting of world history. There are Nazis in the movie, I've read the script. It is not trying to pretend that the Nazis didn't exist, or that World War II didn't happen the way we all know it from history.

I really liked this article! I never heard of this character before. A female black superhero dating from 1971! I am really glad that I found out about this character

The issue debut in August, 1971. That means she predates Marvel’s Storm by four years and DC’s BumbleBee by five years and Vixen by entire decade.

Secretly Las Vegas cabaret singer Marian Michaels, the flying femme’s origin and crime-fighting motivations were never revealed. Butterfly wore a somewhat-skimpy winged costume (note: there are no color pics of the character) with an anti-gravity device/mini-jet for propulsion, and high-intensity strobe lights to blind her foes. Whether she created the costume and equipment herself or was given them is another mystery. She’s also a trained hand-to-hand combatant. This premiere story was written by Gary Friedrich, pencils by Ross Andru, inks by Jack Abel and Mike Esposito. (DWKA note: This is pretty impressive art team. Andru/Esposito were the principal art team on The Amazing Spider-Man in the 60s and defined the Silver Age Wonder Woman working on over 100 issues.)
