Sony: PSP Go Designed To Thwart Pirates

PlayStation PortableImage via Wikipedia

I just read on the G4TV blog that the PSP Go will be designed to be protected from modifying. I'm really bummed about that. I would really like it to be open to writing my own games and software and running them on the PSP/PSP Go legally. Dictatorial policies really reek.

Transformers Revenge of the Fallen on DVD

I have gotten the specifics of the DVD release of Transformers Revenge of the Fallen set for release October 20, 2009. I can't wait. My source is ReelComix.com and here are the specs.

From director Michael Bay and executive producer Steven Spielberg, in association with Hasbro, TRANSFORMERS: Revenge of the Fallen delivers non-stop action and fun in an all-new adventure that the whole family can enjoy. Featuring out-of-this-world heroes in the form of the mighty AUTOBOTS and a malevolent and powerful villain known as THE FALLEN, the film boasts some of the most sensational—and complex—visual effects in film history set against the backdrop of spectacular locations around the world. In addition to audience favorites OPTIMUS PRIME and BUMBLEBEE, the film’s human stars have returned to help save the world including Shia LaBeouf (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull), Megan Fox (How to Lose Friends & Alienate People), Josh Duhamel (“Las Vegas”), Tyrese Gibson (Four Brothers) and John Turturro (The Good Shepherd).

The TRANSFORMERS: Revenge of the Fallen two-disc Blu-ray and DVD feature over three hours of in-depth, immersive special features that let viewers further explore the world of the legendary ROBOTS IN DISGUISE. Among the engrossing content is a multi-chapter documentary, including interviews with the cast and crew, that chronicles the entire making of the film from development and design to filming in locations around the globe, working with the U.S. military, creating the groundbreaking visual effects and putting it all together to produce the biggest film of the year. The discs also include an all-access featurette following renowned director Michael Bay through an entire day, a comprehensive exploration of the “confidential files” on a dozen of the TRANSFORMERS characters featured in the film, multi-angle breakdowns of some of the most sensational action sequences and much, much more.

The Blu-ray and two-disc DVD packages also will feature augmented reality technology that will allow owners to interact with a holographic image of OPTIMUS PRIME utilizing their webcams and a special website. Fans will be asked to piece together the Matrix of Leadership to bring OPTIMUS PRIME back to life, help repair his armor and calibrate his weapons by actually controlling his aim during target practice.

As an added bonus, the Blu-ray will include an exclusive interactive feature that gives viewers the ability to customize their own robot characters and get a glimpse at a rogue robot. Out of all the available permutations, one will unlock an exclusive interview with Michael Bay about his plans for the next adventure.

Two-Disc Special Edition DVD & Blu-ray:
The TRANSFORMERS: Revenge of the Fallen two-disc Special Edition DVD is presented in widescreen enhanced for 16:9 televisions with Dolby Digital English 5.1 Surround, French 5.1 Surround and Spanish 5.1 Surround with English, French and Spanish subtitles. The Blu-ray will be presented in 1080p high definition with English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, French 5.1 Dolby Digital and Spanish 5.1 Dolby Digital with English, English SDH, French, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese subtitles. The disc breakdown is as follows:

Disc 1:
  • Commentary by Michael Bay, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman

    Disc 2:
  • The Human Factor: Exacting Revenge of the Fallen—This multi-chapter documentary chronicles the entire creation of the film and includes interviews with the cast and crew:
  • Seeds of Vengeance - Development and Design - After the overwhelming success of 2007’s Transformers, how do the filmmakers top themselves for the sequel?
  • Domestic Destruction – Production: United States - Michael Bay believes in going big: Big action and big explosions. Cast and crew are pushed to the limit as they traverse the U.S. from New Mexico to Pennsylvania.
  • Joint Operations – Production: Military - No other filmmaker in the world enjoys the kind of military access and cooperation Michael Bay has. Here we see just how efficient our armed forces are and the awe and respect shown by the cast.
  • Wonders of the World – Production: Middle East - You can’t really reproduce Egypt anywhere but Egypt so off we go to Giza and Luxor.
  • Start Making Sense - Editing - In order to turn over the massive amount of film as quickly as possible to VFX, four editors work tirelessly in a unique tag-team approach to shape the film.
  • Under the Gun – Visual EffectsRevenge of the Fallen features the most complicated VFX in film history. So complicated in fact that the filmmakers were unsure they would make the deadline. The DEVASTATOR VFX alone required 83% of ILM’s total render farm capacity.
  • Running the Gauntlet – Post-Production and Release - Working seven days a week, Michael Bay and company usher the film through sound design, Digital Intermediate color-timing and a globe-trotting whirlwind of premieres.
  • A Day with Bay: Tokyo—An intimate and fun all-access journey with Michael Bay as he travels to Tokyo, Japan tor the world premiere of the biggest film of the year.
  • 25 Years of TRANSFORMERS—Access an all-new featurette celebrating a monumental milestone for one of Hasbro’s most successful and popular franchises.
  • NEST: Transformer Data-Hub—Explore conceptual artwork created by the production for 12 of the most popular AUTOBOTS and DECEPTICONS from the film.
  • Deconstructing Visual Bayhem with Commentary by Pre-Vis Supervisor Steve Yamamoto— A series of multi-angle pre-visualization sequences allowing viewers to learn how some of the film’s most spectacular scenes were created with an introduction by Michael Bay.
  • Extended Scenes
  • Music Video: Linkin Park’s “New Divide”

BLU-RAY EXCLUSIVE:

  • The ALLSPARK Experiment—Viewers get their chance to unleash the power of the recently recovered ALLSPARK shard on Earth vehicles. Begin by selecting and customizing a vehicle with a selection of parts and accessories. Then apply the ALLSPARK to this creation and watch what happens. Applying the ALLSPARK to certain custom combinations enables four new robot characters with special powers. If viewers discover all four, they unlock a fifth vehicle, which reveals a top secret message about the future of the TRANSFORMERS movie franchise.
  • NEST: Transformer Data-Hub—A database of some of the TRANSFORMERS characters that appear in the new film, offering users access to each robot’s confidential file including:
  • Innovative 3D spin galleries of each robot
  • A timeline for each TRANSFORMERS character charting its origins, back story and design evolution from toys to animated series to comics and finally feature films
  • Giant Effing Movie – A very personal look at the making of the movie.
  • The Matrix of Marketing—An archive of the film’s promotional media including trailers, posters and television spots.

Iron Man: Armored Adventures Ep 15 Review

Iron Man: Armored AdventuresImage via Wikipedia

Well, I just saw the Iron Man: Armored Adventures episode guest-starring Black Panther. I liked it. I was wondering how they were going to write in such a character with such a huge back story into the story of the show. It worked. I don't like the way they made Tony a teenager because I don't think it really does not work for Iron Man. Anyone remember the "Teen Tony" fiasco they tried in the late 1990's in the Comics. IT was a disaster and Marvel quick distanced itself. Funny thing is that even during all the promotion of Iron Man during last year's movie promotion that part of his history was hardly touched. Believe me I'd like to forget it myself.

But I have digressed. Back to the animated episode. I though that the way Black Panther was brought in, it worked. They kept his origin largely the same - except the identity of his father's killer, but that would have opened up kinds of complexity so I think it was a good choice. So although I don't like them making Iron Man and his main circle of friends teenagers, this was the best episode of the series so far.

"Legion" Prequel in Comics

I've posted the trailer for "Legion" earlier this week and I just found out that the movie will have a four-issue limited series called "Prophets" which expands the story.

"There were a lot of cool and scary characters and situations that I wasn't able to include in the main narrative of the movie, so I'm very excited to be able to expand the Legion universe beyond the film and explore those other stories through the comic book series," said Stewart. "I'm a big fan of IDW's books and it's a real thrill to be able to collaborate with them on Legion: Prophets."

Legion: Prophets features a richly diverse cast of characters: The Theologians, an unlikely pairing of Jacob Heifitz, a 26-year-old Jewish research student, and Sami Saama, a 16-year-old Palestinian would-be terrorist, who must work together to fight off possessed hordes and find a way to the new Cradle of Civilization. The Guardian, Miko Hogosha, a modern day geisha-turned-warrior, who must escape a New York City gone mad and journey to meet the rest of the Prophets. The Codebreaker, Midwestern housewife Maggie Winters, a local puzzle prodigy whose seemingly innocuous skill is about to take a dark turn as her "visions" manifest. And, the Voice, Alan McCormick, a radio icon who broadcasts his late night syndicated radio show alone from his "secret bunker" in the high desert, making a career of exploring bizarre conspiracy theories he doesn't actually believe in, until now.

Each issue showcases unique illustrations by a group of artists as diverse as the story's characters, including Alberto Muriel, Jose Holder, Francisco Paronzini, and Michael Gaydos, as well as can't-look-away covers from French sensation, J.F. Bruckner.

Legion: Prophets #1-4 will be available in stores weekly in November 2009.

Will 'The Green Lantern' Be Kicked Out Of Australia?

Will 'The Green Lantern' Be Kicked Out Of Australia?

I just read the following from G4TV.com. I think that the fact that now the Australian dollar is worth more than ours is a problem. This is something bigger than a movie and the effects will be felt in other industries.

The $150 million epic, The Green Lantern, starring Ryan Reynolds may be in a bit of trouble. It seems that rather than the villainous, Sinestro, the Emerald Crusader is being beat-down by none other than the inflating US Dollar.

Originally lured to Australia with promises of tax-breaks and creating a miniature economic boom, director Martin Campbell had already scouted filming locations in Sydney and Melbourne. Now, the production is facing an Australian dollar that is increasing beyond anticipation, and may possibly become a game-changer for the big-budget comic epic. According to Australia's Inside Film:

"The value of the Australian dollar has climbed by more than 16 per cent since the State Labor government announced the deal to film at Fox Studios in mid-April. The big-budget Hollywood blockbuster was expected to create around 500 local jobs, including 100 performers and 200 crew."

Will this force a relocating effort that may possibly cause serious delays for the film? That, of course, remains to be seen. At the moment, Warner Bros. is attempting to negotiate with the NSW (New South Wales) State Govenment in an effort to level those currency disparities, which represent a potential $15-25 million USD in losses. It may be a difficult effort, seeing as they likely have no legal leg on which to stand. However, the prospect of an economic boom from the aforementioned big-budget Hollywood job opportunities and circulating spending money being present in the country, just might be the leverage they need to persuade the legislators. Thus far, neither party has offered any comments on the progress of those negotiations.

As of now, The Green Lantern is still currently projected for a release date of June 17, 2011.

Marvel partners with Aniboom in an original motion comics contest!

Marvel's logo, circa 1990s.Image via Wikipedia

I don't if you have seen the motion comic format, but I love it. Marvel has recently released a Spider-Woman motion comic and it was great. I just read that Marvel and Aniboom (the motion comic animators) are going to be starting a contest in September 2009 where contestants will be making their own motion comics using content provided by Marvel.

Marvel will provide the original art, voiceovers, soundtracks and storylines, giving the animators the opportunity to put these stories in motion and compete for best creativity in execution. Five finalists chosen by a panel of Marvel judges will each receive $2,000 to expand their motion comic into a full-length story. These five, plus one additional “wildcard” finalist, will compete for the grand prize of $10,000.

I'm going to do this. It's going to be fun! According to Marvel we get started at Aniboom.com

Mr Holmes, is taking a break from CNN to do a main character in an animated film produced by African-Americans that will eventually be airing on BET!

[TJ] "'plays Lusafo, the leader of a group of village bullies. Lusafo is 'shaking down' Kasha, 'an amaZulu boy who was sold into slavery in Ottoman Egypt and has returned to the land of this birth.'"

Wow, Holmes is playing the bad guy. Here is rough-cut footage from the film. I think I will have to see this one.
