Before Tyra. Before Naomi Campbell. There was Naomi Sims. She was considered one of the first world-class super models. She was the first Black woman to appear on the cover of Ladies Home Journal in November 1968. And she was on the cover of Cosmopolitan in 1973. I'm ashamed that I never heard of her. She just died at the age of 61 of breast cancer. She only modeled for about 5 years in late 1960's and early 1970's. Instead of going "belly-up" she became a business mogul in beauty and hair-care products as well as an author. Here are some pictures of her and at the end links.
