Watchmen: Comic Vs Film
Spoiler Alerts: If you have not read the graphic novel or seen the film yet and do not want to know what happens until you do, please read this post after you see film and/read the graphic novel.
Now that I had an opportunity to digest the story of Watchmen from three points-of-view I compare and contrast the mediums: Motion Picture, Comic book, and Motion comic. I'd like to start off on the points of similarity. In my opinion, you can get the bulk of the story the way it was intended using either medium. The Comic Book by far is the most sweeping and causes you to think the most with the most supplementary material between each chapter and has more supporting characters especially compared to the film. We have to face facts: it is not possible to cram that much material into a movie. But the film-makers almost did it.
Comparing the film to the comic book brings up another point: why did Dr. Manhattan's wang was bigger in the film than in the comic book? Just a question.
Also I noticed that a lot of fans of the original graphic novel complained about the ending of the film because they did change it. Here is a humorous video someone made complaining about the ending in the film.
I disagree with the critics. The point of the story is the Adrian Veit plots to deceive the world into denouncing war by making everyone think that the world is facing a threat that can only be overcome if humanity works together. In the comic book, Veit puts the blamed on a giant tentacled "space alien" that he manufactured. In the movie, he implicated Dr. Manhattan. The result is the same. Veit killed millions of people and a horrified world banned together to form piece. I think it was a great compromise and did not detract me from enjoying the movie.
Here is a trailer for the movie
Here is the trailer for the motion comic book
Obama the Christ? Naah!
Fortunately, this farce has been avoided. The artist had decided to stop the public unveiling of the painting under the pressure of public outcry. It's part of a trend dubbed as "Obama Worship". I have never heard of an American President getting this type of honor or reverence ever before. It kind of scares me. There is only one Messiah...one Christ. It's not Barack Obama. I'd like to see President Obama weigh in and say something about this trend. Unless of course he is comfortable with being viewed this way. I hope he isn't. You can read a great article called

Who Knew Twitter Was Useful?
Outbreak 2.0: Tracking Swine Flu Through Google Maps And Twitter
from G4 TV - TheFeedCan't get enough swine-flu excitement? Who can?!? Thankfully the Internet has evolved to the point where everyone can track their favorite diseases and outbreaks like never before. First up is a Google Map that pinpoints every reported case of swine flu around the world. From Mexico to America to Spain to New Zealand, you can follow swine flu victims across the globe.
Speaking of follow, your day isn't complete unless you've received Twitter updates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Busting out emergency updates one tweet at a time, CDC's Twitter page gives you up-to-the-second information on the latest swine flu conference calls, respirator suggestions, and recommended antiviral drugs.
Now if I may be serious for a moment (channeling Lance Storm), it's pretty amazing that the Internet has evolved to the point where millions of people can easily get updates on a disease outbreak. While some will check out the information simply because it's there (Wikipedia syndrome?), others will use it to keep their family and friends safer. It's truly amazing.

Metal Gear Solid for IPhone!?
Konomi is about to release Metal Gear Solid for the IPhone and it looks great. I read about it on the G4TV blog:
Konami have announced the arrival of the full version of Metal Gear Solid Touch for the iPhone and iPod Touch, available now at the App Store. Set in the world of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, the game unfolds over five chapters and twenty stages, as you help Old Snake in his missions. Returning are old favorites like the remainder of the "B&B Corps" and the Gekko, as well as new characters with new abilities to keep you challenged.
You will also interact with the game in a whole new, tactile way, including shaking the phone at certain points, to finish the game. Once all 20 stages have been cleared, a Survival Mode is unlocked that will allow you to skip the cutscenes and just play the game. For those of you who bought the original, smaller version of the game, the upgrade to the full version will be free. Also, a version that will allow users to sample the game, called Metal Gear Solid Touch Lite, will be available soon, and will be free.

Heroes Season 3; Vol 4 Episode 12 (25)
I saw season 3 finale of Heroes. I have mixed feelings on how the season turned out. I liked the idea of Ando and Hiro literally shutting down Building 26, freeing all the prisoners and putting the soldiers on the same beds the prisoners had been strapped to. I also loved the way Peter took Sylar's shape-shifting abilities and turned it against Sylar. That was cool. I think the writing of the show has improved but I think that they following comic books a lot. The way the volume ended reminds me of the moral quandry posed by the story in Watchmen. Is it okay to lie for the greater good. I think it made sense that they needed Nathan to end the government operation against people with abilities, but to bring Nathan back to life by getting rid of Sylar? I'm not too sure. Several questions comes up for me:
1. What is wrong with Hiro and will his powers be completely restored?
2. Why didn't they just use Claire's blood (or even Sylar's) to restore Nathan to life?
3. How many of Sylar's powers did Peter get? Can he keep more than one of them?
4. Does this mean that we will not see Sylar in season 4?
5. Is that Tracy killing people with water-based abilities in the Volume 5 promo?
I can't wait for season 4.

Here is a great article comparing comic book characters with their film counterparts. I like the way comments and observations being made. I highly recommend this post!

GI JOE: Resolute
This post will be in two parts. This part will be just an announcement and an opportunity to show the new show called GI JOE: Resolute. Just the little bit I've seen so far shocks me. It's very similar to the GI Joe I'm familiar with. I mean Gung Ho, Wild Bill, Duke, Flint, Scarlet, Snake Eyes are all there but updated with more of an Anime feel. Also people actually die. Snake Eyes cuts up Cobra soldiers and Cobra Commander executed his own troops! All I can say is that I've never seen GI Joe done this way before. I'm going to write a review on my main blog. Here is the whole thing:

Comics in Crisis: Why We Need a Kingdom Come Movie!
On the Comics In Crisis blog, there is an interesting article about why there should be a movie based on the limited series from the 1990'a called Kingdom Come. The author of the article laments that a live-action movie is probably not possible due to the size and scope of the story. I'm not sure if I agree. I think that with filmmakers like Zack Snyder, Michael Bay, and Wachowski Brothers it could happen. But we need a straight Justice League movie first. Kingdom Come is too cereberal...too much thinking to understand...to be commercially bankable. Maybe Kingdom Come should be animated and released on DVD/Blu Ray.

Comic By Comic: Trek Continuity Solved!
Here is a great post I heard found out on the Comic By Comic blog. There is a great comment on the one winkle I've heard about the new Star Trek movie. I agree with the author. If there is an alternate time line that does not change any Star Trek story that has been seen before. I have not heard what change to the story gives rise to this alternate reality but I can't wait to find out!

JJ Abrams Interview
Jon Stewart Comments on Torture and Laws that Are Never Going To Pass
I've got to admit: I watch the Daily Show at times. It's always funny how they present the news. It's sarcastic, yet the facts reported are true. This week, he had two subjects that must not be ignored. The first segment is about Torture and if American officials should be held accountable for the torture of suspected terrorists? No matter what you think the answer is this is very funny and thought provoking.

Here is the other segment about will the US accept a United Nations resolution that will give children the right to freedom of religion and outlaw corporal punishment? And other laws that will never happen along with one-world government.

I have to disagree with Stewart. I'd like to think that he's right and a one-world currency or restricting American civil liberties because of an international governing body could never happen. Unfortunately, the way I and many others read the Bible these very things will take place. I liked his point that in now way would we join the one-world currency bandwagon because we haven't even adopted the metric system. But I think that is the awesomeness of Bible prophecy. Even the seemingly unlikely will take place if the Bible says it will.

Marvel Divas
I came across a post on the Comic By Comic blog announcing a new book called Marvel Divas. It will be written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa says:
“The idea behind the series was to have some sudsy fun and lift the curtain a bit and take a peep at some of our most fabulous super heroines. In the series, they're an unlikely foursome of friends--Black Cat, Hell Cat, Firestar, and Photon--with TWO things in common: They're all leading double-lives and they're all having romantic trouble. The pitch started as "Sex and the City" in the Marvel Universe, and there's definitely that "naughty" element to it, but I also think the series is doing to a deeper place, asking question about what it means...truly means...to be a woman in an industry dominated by testosterone and guns. (And I mean both the super hero industry and the comic book industry.) But mostly it's just a lot of hot fun.”
I like the premise. I may have to read this one!

Heroes Season 3; Vol 4 Episode 11 (24)
I saw the latest episode of Heroes, called "I am Sylar", and I must admit that I liked it. It was interesting to see more about how Sylar's new shape-shifting powers work now: He absorbs DNA. That makes me wonder if it's another way he can steal powers. It was nice to see Hiro and Ando working together. It made me wonder what's happening to Hiro. I thought that he had regained his powers with no side effects. Turns out that I was wrong. I can't wait to see what those consequences are. I'd like to see what Micah's next move is. I want to see how they are going to stop Sylar. At this point, I would really like to see Peter go back to full power and go toe-to-toe with Sylar. I'm looking to see more. If you check out the sidebar, you'll seea widget that plays episodes from Heroes season 3. If you have missed any, take a look.

Light Saber Fight ....in Lingerie
Movie Review: Fireproof
I recently had the opportunity of seeing the movie Fireproof. I liked it. I thought it was brilliant. Okay, I've got to come clean and admit that my lovely wife, Mitsouky, twisted my arm to watch it. I think everyone should see it because it has much to say about marriage that can be applied no matter how long you've been married or your race you can use the movie to help you think about your own marriage. The story is not just about how God can reconcile husband and wife back to each other but also how God reconciles people back to himself. The movie actually focuses on the husband's point of view but when I saw they related to one another I could see mistakes they were both making. It wasn't all him or all her cause their maritial problems. The movie points out a more fundamental fix: if God isn't part of your life and your marriage then you have set yourself up for failure. This was shown how the main character Caleb was only able to look past himself and love his wife only by loving God first. I don't want to give away all the story...you've got to see it. What I got most out of it was realizing that my role as husband does not depend on my wife and what she does. I should love her and value her no matter if she acts like she accepts it or not. I've heard that before but seeing really helped me understand it better.
My wife and I attended a seminar back in February called Laugh Your Way To A Better Marriage and it covers how to relate better to your spouse if you are both already Christians....really practical stuff. The movie does not give much in this area. The folks who made the movie did put together the Love Dare book that showed up in the movie. Here is a link to the main site for the web site.

Heroes Season 3; Vol 4 Episode 10 (23)
I just saw the latest episode of Heroes and it was awesome. I enjoyed it. It was titled 1961 because in flashbacks we got to see where Primatech came from and how Angela hooked up with the generation one characters from Seasons 1,2,3. It was a shocker and the focus of the whole episode.
1. Angela has a sister that can control the weather.
2. Peter and Nathan reconciled.
3. Suresh found out that his Father was also there at the concentration camp. Funny in terms of personality and demeanor his father was a lot like the Suresh we know when he was young. Could be the loss of his daughter and the events at the camp could be that made him so cold and not-personable in later years.
4. We got to see how Angela met up with Arthur Petrelli, Linderman, Charles Devioux (played by Richard Roundtree in Season 1) . The thing is Linderman told Nathan a little something different in Season 1.
5. History indeed tends to repeat itself. It appears that in 1961 the government collected everyone in the United States with abililities and put them into a concentration camp along with their families.
6. It also appears that Angela's father could hurl energy waves of sometime. I thought that was cool.
7. Angela and the other founders of Primatech wiped memories and hid their identities all these years.
8. The other shocker is that Sylar is pretending to be Nathan in Washington DC.

Laugh Your Way To A Better Marriage
Last February, my wife and I attended a Laugh Your Way To A Better Marriage seminar. It was great. Pastor Mark Gungar did a great job. He discusses about how men and women think differently about the same things. He talks about how to use and understand each other about personality differences. He talk about the key to great sex and how to stay married without killing each other. Seminars take place all over the nation and some of them are live and some of them are video based. In my area the next seminar is by video April 24, 2009 in Fairfield, CA.

This Is Why We must Watch And Pray
Being the father of a little girl myself, in the same region of the United States where this story took place, I had to comment. Did you hear? A little girl 8 year-old went missing last March 27, and then found April 6 in an irrigation pond in a suit case! This happened in Tracy, CA. I have cousins and an aunt who live in Tracy, CA. I was like who could do such an evil thing. They arrested a Sunday School Teacher!!!!! A woman!!!! What is happening?! We still don't know if she really did it, and if she did what was her motive? The world is loosing its mind more and more...slipping into oblivion. Well, Jesus said that there would be days like these. Jesus is the only cure. Read the article: Missing Girl Sandra Cantu.

Terrence Howards Comments on Iron Man 2
I read a post from G4TV, where Terrence Howard comments on why he will not be in Iron Man 2.
"Iron Man happened with that. Marvel happened with it. They made a choice. They made a very, very bad choice. They didn't keep their word. They didn't honor our contract. They sent everyone out into a field and told them to work and produce a great bounty. You produce a great bounty, and then when it's all in the storehouse, you are not allowed into the storehouse." Howard goes on to say of Hollywood politics, "(M)ake sure your Ts are crossed twice."
Concerning being replaced by Don Cheadle, Howard said:
"I want to see Don Cheadle become me. I want him to do better than me. That's what I really want to see. I think he can. Don Cheadle is the reason I got on Crash. He was one of the producers on Crash, and he called and got me in there. So it's like Don is good by me, anything he does. He's given me the greatest gift I could ever imagine having. Don gave me that, so anything I have, I'll share with him."
I agree with Joseph Baxter, who wrote the G4TV article, that we still don't know what happened but it looks like the cast change is permanent. Looks like it's a mystery that the public just doesn't have a solution for yet.

Heroes Season 3; Vol 4 Episode 9 (22)
On April 6, 2009, I watched the latest episode of Heroes to air called "Turn and Face the Stranger" I wondered why the episode was tagged with this title. But upon reflection on the themes explored in the show it's a perfect description of the character's relationships.
1. Matt Parkman came to terms with who he is. He hated Danko for all he had done but chose not to kill him or an innocent woman for revenge. He took a good look at himself, saw someone he didn't recognize and chose to be the man he wanted to be. This is why Matt is a hero.
2. Angela Petrelli has decided to reveal her past to her sons and grand-daughter. We did not get to see this truth that she was hiding in this episode. However will she seem like a stranger to her family when they know everything?
3. Parkman also met his son.
4. Suresh finds some evidence that his father was connected to Angela Petrelli in the late 60's. Hopefully this will be further explored
5. Sylar used his new-found shapeshifting powers to pretend to be Noah's wife and divorce him. Unfortunately she was really there and at one point he could not tell the difference. Both Noah and his wife were facing strangers. Angela warned Noah, but he didn't listen. Now it seems like his marriage really is over.
